Apologies Are Words
Apologies are words
Half meant
Half why the wrong was right.
My wife once told me
Don’t apologize.
I think she was talking
About apologies
As automatic lies.
Think about it.
“Sorry I lost my temper.”
“Have you found it yet?”
“Sorry I yelled.”
“I am too.”
Do about it?
A-pol-o-gize!
A different tack
on the sailing sea.
I am not sorry.
I am in Hell at the moment
And you were just in my way
Why the Hell would you get in my way
When you knew how low I felt?
Starting over
I am not sorry.
I love you, you know.
You’re the one I can yell at,
One who can take a lowdown blow.
I am not sorry.
Except that I am.
I yell, I lose my temper,
And it’s nowhere,
Nowhere, near at hand.
I am sorry.
Know that I am.
I have not slept
Because I am.
Sorry.
